Investing in Your Health Care
September 27, 2007 – Last night, Liberal Candidate Harinder Takhar participated in an election panel debate organized by Credit Valley Hospital.

Harinder joined his colleagues Peter Fonseca, Bob Delaney, and Amrit Mangat to discuss health and social service issues.

"Today, we have transformed how Ontarians experience health care," said Harinder. "We are hiring more nurses, training more doctors, expanding Credit Valley and Trillium Health Centre, and continuing to lower wait times. The Ontario Liberals are committed to a strong public health care system and believes in Medicare – Medicare is Ontario's biggest economic advantage."

Keeping Mississauga Moving
September 26, 2007 – Liberal candidate Harinder Takhar welcomed Premier McGuinty as he rolled in to Mississauga yesterday to make a major funding announcement.

Dalton announced a $100 million investment for public transit in Mississauga to help fight gridlock. Under the plan, new GO trains and buses, and expanded GO tracks will be purchased.

"Transportation is a priority in Mississauga," said Harinder. "Since 2003, the Ontario Liberals have invested billions into public transit, and expanding and improving every highway leading into Mississauga – including the addition of Ontario's first ever HOV lanes. These investments will help to ease gridlock and congestion on our roads."

Quality Education for Post Secondary Students
September 20, 2007 – Liberal candidate Harinder Takhar met with students from over 400 clubs and organizations today at the University of Toronto Mississauga (UTM) campus during its annual Clubs and Activities week.

In the Mississauga community, the Ontario Liberals have continued to work to ensure higher education opportunities are being made available. This past year at UTM, we have opened a new undergraduate medical school, and a forensic sciences institute, and launched a new undergraduate concurrent teacher education program.

“By investing in post-secondary education today, we are investing in the future prosperity of our province,” said Harinder. “Our people are our greatest asset and when we tap into the potential of each Ontarian, we all benefit.”

Takhar Stands Up for Public Education
September 20, 2007 – Yesterday Liberal candidate Harinder Takhar came out on top at an exciting debate hosted by the Mississauga Board of Trade.

Harinder stressed the importance of keeping public funding in our current education systems. “We cannot afford to turn back to the days of Conservative cuts and neglect. The Tories and their ill-fated plan to take $500 million out of our current education systems and give this to private, religious schools will not move Ontario forward.”

The Ontario Liberals are working hard to ensure our public systems are welcoming and respectful to students of all faiths and cultures.

Mississauga Matters to Ontario Liberals
September 20, 2007- Last night Liberal candidate Harinder Takhar welcomed Deputy Premier Greg Sorbara to the City of Mississauga.

Greg was joined by representatives from the NDP, Tories, and Green Parties to speak at the Mississauga Matters town hall meeting.

In a fiery debate between all representatives, Greg highlighted that under the Ontario Liberals, positive change has been brought to Mississauga – class sizes are smaller, local hospitals are being expanded, all highways leading into the city are being worked on, and unprecedented investments have been made in public transit.

“A lot of progress has been made in Mississauga,” said Harinder. “Our plan is working and Mississauga is moving forward, look how far we’ve come together – but there is more to do.”

Harinder Discusses Long Term Care
September 18, 2007 – Last night Liberal candidate Harinder Takhar met with members of the Specialty Care Mississauga Road Family Council to discuss issues that matter most to them.

Since 2003, the Ontario Liberals have hired 6,100 new direct care staff and 2,300 nurses in long term care homes, raised the daily raw food allowance to $7.00 a day, passed legislation to strengthen enforcement and enhance the quality of life for residents in long term care homes, and have put 7,712 new long term care beds into operation.

“Ontario’s seniors, who have done so much to build this province, deserve the highest quality of care from public services,” said Harinder. “As our population ages, demands for these services are expected to grow in our community.”

The Ontario Liberals recognize and respect the contributions seniors have made to the province, and are investing in initiatives to help older Ontarians live with dignity and independence, often in their own homes.

Young Liberals Rally to Paint Ontario Red September 16, 2007 – Young Liberals from the University of Toronto Mississauga campus were joined by hundreds of youth in Toronto yesterday in a province wide rally to officially launch the Ontario Young Liberals youth election campaign. The Paint It Red campaign is about spreading the core values that the Ontario Liberal Party believes in. These values include: health care, education, the environment, and a strong economy. The Ontario Liberals have made great progress in delivering positive change – but there is more to do, and we can do it together. It’s time to join us and Paint It Red.
